What people are saying...
Comedian, Actor, UFC Commentator, former host of NBC's Fear Factor
"The sensory deprivation chamber has been the most important tool that Iâve ever used for developing my mind, for thinking, for evolving."
NBA Star
"With the Epsom salts and magnesium that are in [float] tanks, they're helpful with recovery and relaxing your muscles... also, it's one of the only places where you can really get unplugged from all the noise and distractions that go on with daily life."
Pioneering researcher in the field of Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy, founding President of IRIS
"We had a Zen master who visited my lab once, and he asked to go in the tank for an hour. Most of his life he had meditated every day for four or five hours or more. And he thought the depth of meditation he reached in the tank was on par with a level he reached maybe once a year in his normal meditation environmentâwhich was not exactly the middle of Times Square. He was amazed."

Yes, but not immediately after coloring your hair. No hair dye within 30 days of your float. (For vibrant colors like red or purple, allow 6-8 weeks.) When you shower at home, the water must run clear. If there is still some color coming out, you must wait another week or two (until water runs clear). Most people who dye their hair book their float session a day or two before booking their next hair coloring appointment. Easy peasy!
Floating and fresh tattoos do not mix! Not only could floating with a fresh tattoo be painful (salt + open wounds = ouch) but the water solution could cause fading or discoloration of your tattoo and permanently ruin its aesthetic appeal. How long you should wait before floating depends on the tattoo and how quickly it heals, but tattoo artists/floaters we have talked to have suggested waiting 4-6 weeks.
Like tattoos, this tends to not mix well! When your piercing is fresh it is still an open wound, which will cause some major discomfort. The area you have pierced will create a variation in the healing time, so floating can take between a couple weeks to a couple months depending on what you had done. For more information we suggest searching the healing times online or ask your body modification artist.
Nope! You don't need a swimsuit. They are not allowed as they can carry contaminants into the pristine float solution. Nothing but your naked body goes into the float tank. No makeup, jewelry, watches, etc. Before entering the tank, you'll shower to wash your hair and rinse off body products and oils.
Like a pickle covered in maple syrup, pregnant women love floating! There is even a special position you can float in that relieves all of the weight of the baby off of the motherâs body.  If you are in your third trimester, or have any concerns, please consult with your physician before coming in.
Being in the tanks is like floating weightless in outer space. Youâre always in control of your environment, and even people with extreme claustrophobia have reported having no problems with their time in the tank. Our luxurious float rooms are spacious with 7-foot high ceilings, including stars to gaze at, a pool light, and soothing music. Like a glamorously oversized bathtub, there is plenty of room to stretch out and relax!
Your float starts at the appointment time. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for check-in and orientation. All sessions begin promptly. You'll receive a detailed orientation before entering your private float suite.
If you have a gift card, bring a valid credit card (required for all guests). If you have longer hair, you may want to bring a comb. Also, something to put your contact lenses into while youâre in the tank. Other than that, we provide everything you need (towels, toiletries, spa slippers, and makeup remover). Each room is fully private, and you go into the tanks nude, so thereâs no need to bring a bathing suit. Post-float, we have luxurious hair/body products to pamper yourself with.
Yes, you can float while menstruating. Just treat it like going to a swimming pool while on your period. Pro tip: consider coating the tampon string with petroleum jelly (provided in the room) to prevent salt water from wicking into the tampon.
Donât drink coffee for several hours beforehand (it can make your system jittery). Also, donât shave or wax since the salt water can irritate your skin. Eating a light meal about an hour to 90 minutes ahead of time stops your stomach from sounding like an angry monster while you float. Other than that, no specific preparation is needed.
Once youâre inside the tanks, the experience is practically identical in both of them. SAPPHIRE (the room on the right) has a blue pool light, and the door is on the side (within view). EMERALD (the room on the left) has a green pool light, and the door is behind your head (out of view).
Only one person per tank. We have two float tanks, so you can invite another person to float simultaneously in the room next door. Double-wide tanks exist, but we think they detract from the âsensory deprivationâ experience.
There arenât any latches on the tank doors, and you can get out anytime. Time seems to melt away. The average 60-minute float usually goes by way faster than youâd expect!
Nope. Some people fall asleep, but the water is so buoyant that you stay afloat. The worst that can happen is getting woken up by a bit of salt water in your eyes.
No. Your skin doesnât even prune up, but it does become silky soft afterward.
Over 1,000 pounds of Epsom salts are dissolved in filtered water in our luxurious float tanks creating a zero-gravity, weightless experience.
Between each float, the water is filtered multiple times through either a 1 or 10 micron filter and treated with UV light to sanitize the water. There is also residual Hydrogen Peroxide for supplementary sanitation and oxidation.
We are the first and only float facility in New York City that uses filtered water to fill our tanks. Our healing sanctuary is built on a crystal grid to continually cleanse the space, and each float tank has a massive meditation crystal.
The first float tank was developed in 1954 by John C. Lilly. These involved full submersion in water and a breathing device that completely covered your face. The first lay down, commercial tanks were invented in the early 70âs.
